Do you find it difficult to say ‘no’? In order to have balance in your life it’s important to recognise that you have a right to say ‘no’ and part of that right is that it’s not necessary to give a reason, unless you make the choice to do so. When you give reasons because you feel you have to, you may open the door to discussion on whether you will change your mind. Justifying your decision to say no can provide hooks for the other person to hang their arguments on.

Some questions to ask yourself if you are not clear about whether to say ‘yes’ or ‘no‘ … Do I understand the request / Why do I want to do this? / Does it feel right? / From my perspective is it a reasonable request? / Do I have time for it?
